According to a notice by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) published in various newspapers, Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) 2016 will be held on Sunday, January 17, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. AICTE has not updated dates on their official website of CMAT.

CMAT is a national-level computer-based exam. CMAT scores are used by various MBA colleges and business schools for admission to various management courses.

The exam will be held for three hours. No update about change in exam pattern has been notified yet.

This year, all women candidates will need to pay just Rs 700 as test fees. The general category fee is Rs 1400.

Earlier, CMAT was earlier held twice in a year – September and February.

CMAT 2016 Eligibility Criteria

According to the official notice, “Graduates in any discipline or final year students of graduate courses (10+2+3) whose result will be declared before the commencement of admission for academic year 2016-17.”


CMAT 2016 Admission Process

As informed above, CMAT score are used by several B-Schools to shortlist candidates for MBA courses. AICTE issues a detailed merit list to respective state governments “for allotting the students through central counselling or otherwise as per their notified admission procedure. In case there is no central counselling, scores awarded will be used for admission directly in the AICTE approved Institutes/University Departments/ Constituent Colleges/ Affiliated colleges.”

CMAT 2016 & GPAT 2016

According to the AICTE notification, both CMAT & Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) will be held on the same day. CMAT exam will be held in the morning slot, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. GPAT on the other hand will be held in the afternoon slot, from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

"Candidates are required to arrive at the test centre on or before 8:00 AM for Security checks, Identity verification, and check-in," informs the official website.

Chances are both the exam will be held at the same exam centre. As a result, there could be chances of chaos and confusion at the exam centre. It is a good idea to visit the allotted centre beforehand.


CMAT 2016 Exam Pattern

As mentioned before, AICTE has not revealed anything about a change in exam pattern so far. Till last year, CMAT was 180 minutes exam, comprising of 100 questions divided in four sections:

  • Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation
  • Logical Reasoning
  • Language Comprehension
  • General Awareness.
